Bill without an Agreement

Bill clients without a signed agreement

Written by Kellie Roop

Not every client needs a signed agreement before you can bill them. With invoices without an agreement, you can send a client their first invoice directly, no proposal or agreement required, and convert to a full agreement later if the relationship needs one.

How It Works

When you send a client their first invoice without an agreement, it will be tracked right alongside your other clients on the Billing page.

Each invoice requires the client's approval before payment is processed, and payment terms, an optional Terms of Service (ToS), and the email content are all fully customizable per invoice.

Sending Your First Invoice

To bill a client without an agreement:

  1. Select the client. Click the "Bill client" button on the bottom of the left hand menu bar, select the client you would like to bill from the dropdown.

  2. Select the date you would like to issue the invoice on.

  3. Add Services. Click, "Add charge" and select the service(s) you want to bill, just as you would for any invoice.

  4. Set the Payment settings. Add your payment terms and, if you'd like the client to review and accept one, an optional Terms of Service.

  5. Customize the email. Adjust the email content for this invoice if you want it to say something specific to this client.

  6. Choose how to send it. Send by email, share it directly by link, or mark it as paid externally if you've already been paid outside Anchor.

What Your Client Sees

Your client receives a secure payment link where they can connect a payment method and review the invoice details.

The Billing Mini-Site

Every client billed this way gets a small dedicated hub on the Billing page, organized into four tabs:

  • Agreement: Convert to a full agreement whenever you or your client are ready.

  • Payment Methods: View the payment method your client has connected or add it for them.

  • Invoices: See every invoice sent to this client, and its status.

  • Activity Log: Track approvals, payments, and other activity on this client's account over time.

Converting to a Full Agreement

When you or your client is ready to formalize the relationship, you can convert these invoices into a full agreement. There's no need to start over or re-enter client details.
