What to check if your KYB document upload fails.

Steps to take if your business registration document fails to upload during the KYB process.

If your document upload fails during the Know Your Business (KYB) process, you can check the common reasons below to troubleshoot the proble.

What to check

1. Make sure the business name and EIN on the document match exactly what you type in the KYB form.

Even minor differences, like a missing word or punctuation, can cause a mismatch that fails verification. Double-check the information you type on the form matches your official IRS document.

2. Select the correct document type before uploading.

If you're uploading an SS-4, select SS-4 as the document type first. If you're uploading a 147C, select 147C. Uploading without selecting the right type first is a common cause of failure.

3. Use a clear, complete copy of an IRS-issued document.

Acceptable documents are an SS-4 or 147C form. Make sure the image or file is legible and all information is visible. If it's cropped or blurry, you should try uploading it in a clearer format.

4. Make sure all required fields are filled out before uploading.

Incomplete fields elsewhere in the KYB form can prevent the upload from going through. Review the full form before attempting to upload again.

If you don't have the required documents, you can request a Letter 147C by calling the IRS Business & Specialty Tax Line toll-free at 1-800-829-4933.
